VSCNU Faculty of Foreign Languages Explores the Art of Poetry with Oksana Zayets

A literary meeting was held in Ivano-Frankivsk with poet Oksana Zayets, a native of Ryazan who has been living and working in the Czech Republic since 2016. The event was organised by the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University in cooperation with the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Universal Scientific Library named after Ivan Franko.

During the meeting, the author presented two poetry collections — “You Know…” (2020) and “On the Line of Contact” (2023) — and shared the stories of their creation, as well as the sources of her own inspiration. The participants of the event had the opportunity to hear the author perform philosophical lyrics, as well as English-language versions of individual poems translated by Ella Mintsis, a senior lecturer in the Department of English Philology.

Special attention was paid to the lively dialogue between the author and the audience. Students and teachers actively discussed the texts they heard and their translations, shared their impressions and thoughts on the role of poetry in modern society. Vasyl Zagorodniuk, head of the Kherson regional organisation of the Writers’ Union of Ukraine, also joined the discussion. The atmosphere of the event fostered open and sincere communication and a deeper understanding of the artistic world.

Such literary meetings are an important component of students’ cultural life, as they popularise modern Ukrainian literature, inspire young people to be creative, and foster aesthetic thinking.

We sincerely thank the library staff for their fruitful cooperation and support in organising the event!
