Digitalization, open science and community partnership: a visit to the University of Southeast Norway

Rector of  Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University, Valentyna Yakubiv, and the head of the educational and scientific centre for research, projects and scientific information, Tetyana Hrynyshak, visited the University of South-East Norway, a partner institution within the EDUC alliance of European digital universities.

The visit took place within the framework of the EDUC-WIDE grant project — “Empowering EDUC for Inclusive Development of the ERA”, which is implemented with the support of the EU Horizon Europe program.

During the working meetings, we focused on digitalising management processes, data analytics, repository development, open science, and digital research management tools. Together with Norwegian colleagues and representatives of Masaryk University (Czech Republic), the participants in the visit exchanged experiences and discussed practices that can contribute to university development.

An important part of the program was a meeting with representatives of the municipality of Drammen. Colleagues shared the experience of the city’s cooperation with the university and discussed joint projects. Separately, there was a discussion of supporting Ukrainians, whom Drammen has accepted since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Valentyna Yakubiv proposed establishing cooperation between our university and the city’s Ukrainian community through educational and cultural initiatives to preserve the Ukrainian language, culture, traditions, and connections with the Motherland.

University representatives also visited the Vestfold campus, where they got acquainted with the work of the Science Park and scientific laboratories. The use of simulators in education was of particular interest: modelling real professional situations allows students to practice practical skills and prepare for future work.

The visit strengthened our international partnership and shared experience in developing digital management, research infrastructure, and practical training for students.

We sincerely thank the University of South-Eastern Norway for its hospitality, openness, and a meaningful program, and our Norwegian and Czech colleagues for the fruitful exchange of experience and for their support for Ukraine!
