On April 17 at 12:00 p.m., the presentation of the magazine “Eye of the University” will take place in the exhibition hall of Carpathian National University.
“Eye of the University” is the first issue of Carpathian National University’s glossy magazine.
This is a publication about a new lens in which education, science, and the impact of academia on society are demonstrated through the prism of living stories. The world’s university presses have long since moved beyond purely academic bulletins.
Legendary publications like Harvard Magazine and The Oxford Student prove that a university is not just a lecture hall, but a living community. They become intellectual hubs where long reads and visual stories shape the cultural code of the institution, transforming the university from a formal institution into a powerful brand with its own character.
The magazine was born from the idea and vision of Doctor of Art History, Professor Nadiya Babiy. Its publication is the result of joint work of the Department of Journalism, the Centre for Research on Universal Design Strategies, and the Department of Design and Art Theory.
A special place in this issue is occupied by the person of the year – Ihor Tsependa. The former rector and a person with whose name an important and extremely powerful stage in the formation and development of the Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University is associated.
At the same time, the magazine also captures the moment of renewal – the rebranding of the university, the formation of a modern visual culture, the election of a new rector and the beginning of the next stage of our common history. It is not for nothing that today’s motto of the university sounds like a vision for the future: “From the peaks of the Carpathians to the peaks of education”. The structure of the magazine reflects the mission of the university and is divided into three large sections: “Mission: Education”, “Mission: Science”, “Mission: Society and development of the region”.
Within these sections, there is a kaleidoscope of faculties, creative education, a charitable university, scientific figures, future generations, and other subheadings that together form a holistic picture of the multifaceted nature of university life.
The almanack contains materials from students of the Department of Journalism, Faculty of Philology.
What is especially valuable is that each author tried to convey their own vision and atmosphere of university life, using different genre forms and approaches to presenting information.
The almanac not only reflects the events taking place at the university, but also serves as a platform for students’ self-realization. At the same time, the texts and photographs are distinguished by creativity, emotion, and sincerity, making them interesting to a wide range of readers.
The cover photos of this year’s issue were taken by participants of the “Light Painting” scientific group – head, associate professor Lesya Semchuk.
Professional layout by Volodymyr Yatsyshyn. Employees of the university’s press service also contributed to the almanack. So, today we are celebrating a major new step.
Glossy is not only about aesthetics or paper, but also about “soft power” tools, because it captures values that cannot be conveyed through dry reports.
It is a showcase of the intellectual lifestyle, showing that the academic community is made up of people with ambition, bright ideas, and their own unique style.
This is a space where professorship appears in an unusual light, and student life is revealed not through grades, but through one’s passions, dreams, and life outside the classroom.
We present “Eye of the University” to physically capture the values of our community, making them tangible, stylish, and powerful. We create a gloss that will be read not out of necessity, but out of inspiration.
