Communication without barriers: a step towards an inclusive space at Carpathian University

Today, May 8, an extremely important and profound event took place at the Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University – a training meeting “Communication without barriers: rules for communicating with people with hearing impairments”, organized by the Stakeholder Engagement Department.

The event took place in the innovative MOPED space and brought together everyone who strives to make our environment truly open, empathetic, and accessible to everyone.

The main topic of discussion was correct terminology and ethics of communicating with deaf people.

Invited experts shared their unique experience and professional knowledge with those present:

1) Karolina Dmitrievna Belousova — head of the regional organization of the Ukrainian Society of the Deaf (UTOG).

2) Olga Vasylivna Panasyuk — head of the territorial organization of the Ukrainian Workers’ Party.

The speakers helped dispel common stereotypes, explained why the right words are of great importance, and shared practical advice on establishing a comfortable dialogue.

Participants learned how to overcome communication barriers and make interaction as natural and respectful as possible.

Building a barrier-free environment is not just a modern trend, it is a conscious choice of our team.

Such initiatives are fundamental to the ongoing development of our staff, as they teach us to be more attentive to each other, to our colleagues, students, and guests of the university.

Inclusivity begins with a willingness to understand others, and today we have taken another confident step on this path.

Let’s move on, because true communication truly has no barriers!
