Associate Professor of the Department of English Philology, Iryna Matiyash-Hnedyuk, became the winner of the House of Europe grant program and completed an international internship at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
The internship took place in the city of Essen from April 18 to May 1 under the supervision of Professor Dr Manuela Franke of the Department of Foreign Languages.
As part of the internship, the participant attended training sessions with faculty members, becoming acquainted with the peculiarities of organising the educational process and modern approaches to teaching foreign languages at a German university.
There was also a meeting with the author of the comics, during which participants discussed the possibilities of using comics in the teaching and learning of foreign languages as an effective tool for developing students’ language and communication skills.
During the internship, the department’s associate professor held two lectures and discussions for university students. The first was dedicated to student life in wartime Ukraine and the challenges Ukrainian students and teachers face in modern realities. The second lecture addressed the issue of accents in English learning, in particular, whether it is necessary to get rid of an accent and how attitudes towards different accents are changing in the modern English-speaking environment.
Participation in an international internship contributed to professional development, academic exchange of experience, and strengthening international cooperation in the field of foreign language teaching.
