Students of VSCNU met with Chairman of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk

Today, October 5, a meeting of students and teachers with the Chairman of  the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, took place at the Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University.

The guest of the university was welcomed by the institution’s management, headed by the rector Valentyna Yakubiv. Representatives of regional and city authorities also joined the meeting.

The main topic of the meeting was a discussion of the prospects for updating the Civil Code of Ukraine – one of the key legislative acts that defines the principles of regulating civil relations in the state.

The communication was primarily focused on student youth. Future lawyers and representatives of other specialities had the opportunity to hear directly from the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine about approaches to reforming civil legislation, current challenges and the need to adapt legal norms to the needs of modern Ukraine.

During the meeting, it was noted that the current Civil Code of Ukraine, adopted in 2003, has become one of the key outcomes of Ukrainian legal reform. At the same time, its main conceptual approaches were formed back in the 1990s, in completely different social, economic and legal conditions.

That is why today the question arises as to how many of the legal tools laid down in the current Code are sufficient for Ukraine’s future, and what changes are necessary to develop modern civil legislation.

During the meeting, we focused on the role of young professionals in this process. After all, it is the current law students who will work with legislation that must meet the realities of post-war reconstruction, the development of the digital economy, new forms of ownership and contractual relations, as well as the European legal space.

The meeting was an opportunity for students not only to learn more about modern legislative processes but also to communicate directly with one of the key representatives of the Ukrainian parliament, ask questions, and join a professional discussion about the future of Ukrainian law.

For Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University, such meetings are an important component of the educational process, as they allow students to combine academic knowledge with an understanding of real legislative processes and challenges facing Ukraine.
