Associate Professor of the Department of English Philology Tetyana Marchuk and Senior Lecturer Ella Mintsis participated in the international conference CHILDREN’S LITERATURE AND TRANSLATION STUDIES, which took place on August 26–28, 2026 at Palacký University in Olomouc (Czech Republic).
As part of the conference, the lecturers presented a joint report “Interjections in Translation: A Case Study on the Ukrainian Translation of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ”, dedicated to the peculiarities of reproducing exclamations in the translation of children’s literature. The report sparked lively discussion and interest among the conference participants.
Tetyana Marchuk and Ella Mintsis also joined the roundtable “Mapping Children’s Literature Translation Studies: A Growing Field,” dedicated to the current state and prospects for the development of research on the translation of children’s literature.
Participation in the conference provided an opportunity to familiarize themselves with a wide range of current scientific research in the field of children’s literature and translation studies. In particular, participants discussed the translation of children’s picture books on digital platforms using BookaBooka material, the representation of maternal presence and gendered worldbuilding in the work Kate on the Case in the English-Turkish translation, as well as the peculiarities of reproducing wordplay in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and its translation into Georgian.
Particular attention was paid to the problems of representing borders, territories and migration in the transcultural corpus of books, the development of children’s literature in the era of artificial intelligence and the translation of culturally marked vocabulary. The presented studies demonstrated a wide range of modern approaches to the study of children’s literature, in particular from the perspectives of translation studies, gender studies, digital humanities and intercultural communication.
The participation of teachers in the international conference CHILDREN’S LITERATURE AND TRANSLATION STUDIES became an important opportunity for professional and scientific development, exchange of experience with representatives of the international academic community, discussion of current research trends, and establishment of new professional contacts.
The international academic activity of the teachers of the Department of English Philology contributes to the expansion of international cooperation, the integration of the university into the European educational and scientific space, and the popularization of Ukrainian translation and literary studies in the international academic environment.
