The main program day of the 6th annual international conference Temerty Contemporary Ukraine Program (TCUP) was held at the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute (HURI), which took place on January 30-31, 2026, under the title “Solidarity: Within and Beyond Ukraine”, dedicated to understanding the phenomenon of solidarity in the context of Russia’s ongoing full-scale war against Ukraine.
The conference was attended by the Head of the Department of Entrepreneurship, Trade and Applied Economics, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Nadiya Ivanivna Pylypiv, and the Professor of the Department of History of Ukraine and Methods of Teaching History, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Ihor Vasylovich Pylypiv.
Dr Emily Channell-Justice, Director of the Temerty Contemporary Ukraine Program, welcomed the participants and emphasised the importance of solidarity as a political, civic, and moral category in the modern world. Panel discussions focused on international support for Ukraine, the role of civil society, and the resilience of the Ukrainian state. A keynote address was given by Maksym Butkevych, a human rights activist, journalist, and veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian wreath was chosen as the conference’s symbol, becoming an essential visual and semantic image of the event. In traditional Ukrainian culture, the wreath represents identity, continuity of tradition, and resilience, and in times of war, it became a symbol of solidarity and cultural resistance.
The conference included direct communication with Mr Tymish Globinsky, the head of the fellowship program of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Harvard University, as well as with the director of the TCUP program, Dr Emily Channell-Justice, and the co-founder of the “Promprylad.Renovation” project, Yuriy Filuk. The issues of support for Ukrainian researchers, academic mobility, and prospects for further international cooperation were discussed.
Participation in the conference deepened international academic dialogue on Ukraine and was an essential experience for developing inter-university contacts.
