The rector took part in the discussion of an experiment on expanding university autonomy

The rector of the university, Valentyna Yakubiv, participated in a vital working meeting and press conference dedicated to the government experiment conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine aimed at strengthening the role of supervisory boards and expanding the autonomy of universities. The working meeting was attended by the chairpersons and members of the supervisory boards, as well as rectors, of the three universities participating in the government experiment.

During the meeting, interim results and experiences were exchanged. An essential component of the discussion was the participation of a representative of the World Bank, who outlined the international context of the reform and emphasised the importance of corporate governance, strategic management, and accountability as key conditions for the sustainability and competitiveness of universities.

International experience and expert assessment confirm that the Ukrainian model is moving in the right direction and has significant potential for development.

At Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University, participation in the experiment involves not only introducing new management tools but also assuming responsibility for shaping a modern culture of governance, strategic thinking, and partnership among the administration, academic council, and supervisory board.

As part of the event, a separate meeting was held with the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisov, during which the prospects for further development of the experiment with expanded powers of supervisory boards, its impact on the quality of university management, and the possibilities of scaling this model to the entire higher education system were discussed.

“I am convinced that such a model – combining autonomy, accountability, and strategic dialogue with the state and international partners – is an important step towards the sustainable development of the university in the European space of education and science,” noted Valentyna Yakubiv.
