Study Visit of VSCNU Students to the European Parliament

On 1 -3 December 2025, second-year Master’s students of conference interpreting from Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University – Sofiia Kovalchuk, Oleh Kurtiak, Oksana Pryimak, and Solomiia Shcherbiuk — together with Kateryna Kobuta, assistant lecturer at the Department of English Philology, completed a study visit to the Directorate-General for Logistics and Interpretation for Conferences (DG LINC) of the European Parliament in Brussels.
The programme of the visit included an introduction to the work of the European Parliament’s Interpretation Service, observation of conference interpreters at work during parliamentary meetings, attendance at parliamentary events, and meetings with representatives of DG LINC. These activities offered students an opportunity to witness first-hand the organisation of multilingual communication at one of the world’s most linguistically diverse legislative bodies.
Such study visits are of particular importance for the training of future conference interpreters. Direct exposure to the real working environment, professional standards, interpreter workflows, and the pace of institutional meetings helps students better understand the demands of the profession. Observing experienced interpreters in action and engaging with DG LINC staff provides meaningful insight into the competencies, ethics, and preparation techniques expected in European institutions, bridging the gap between academic training and the professional interpreting world.
This study visit was an action implemented within the project “Advancing Capacity for Conference Interpreters’ Training at CNU – 2025 -2026”, funded by the European Parliament.
The university expresses its gratitude to the European Parliament and DG LINC for their support and for creating opportunities that contribute to the professional growth of both students and teaching staff in the field of conference interpreting.
