On December 1, a joint meeting of the Council for Research Work of Students, Postgraduate Students and Young Scientists and the Student Senate was held at Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University. The event brought together representatives of the student community, young scientists, and university staff to discuss strategically important issues related to developing student self-government and increasing the level of protection of students’ rights.
The main topic of the meeting was the presentation and collective discussion of the new Regulations on the Commissioner for Students’ Rights – Student Ombudsman of the Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University. Members of both bodies analysed the document in detail, agreed on key mechanisms for its implementation, and determined further steps to launch a new institution within the university environment.
During the meeting, it was emphasised that the Student Ombudsman is an independent representative of the university community, acting to protect the rights and interests of students and employees. The Ombudsman will contribute to the formation of a fair, safe and open educational environment, assist in resolving conflict situations, advise students and initiate positive changes in internal rules and procedures. He will also conduct educational activities on student rights and a culture of mutual respect at the university.
The meeting participants agreed on the organisational aspects of the competition for the position of Student Ombudsman, the schedule of important dates, the format of the meeting with candidates, and the secret ballot procedure. Those responsible for organising the election process were identified, and an information campaign aimed at involving the widest possible circle of members of the university community was outlined.
In addition to the main issue, the opportunities currently available to young scientists at the university were also considered. In particular, Taras Paska, Chairman of the Council for Research Work of Students, Postgraduate Students, and Young Scientists, presented current programs, grants, and initiatives available to students, postgraduate students, and young scientists, emphasising the importance of involving young students in research activities and international projects.
The participants discussed the current needs of the student community, plans for scientific events for the coming months, and opportunities for deepening cooperation between the student government and young researchers.
