Carpathian University joins the development of sustainable tourism in the Carpathians

In Rzeszów (Republic of Poland), the Chairman of the Academic Council Ihor Tsependa, the Director of the International Scientific Center “Observatory” Myroslava Mylenka, the Dean of the Faculty of Tourism Volodymyr Velikochy, and the Associate Professor of the Department of Biology and Ecology Ulyana Semak participated in the 11th meeting of the Working Group on Sustainable Tourism of the Carpathian Convention.

During the meeting, representatives of the countries of the Carpathian region discussed the implementation of the Protocol on Sustainable Tourism, new international projects, and priorities for the development of sustainable tourism in the coming years.

Carpathian University is actively involved in expert and scientific support of initiatives within the framework of the Carpathian Convention, offering scientific solutions for the preservation of natural heritage and sustainable development of mountain areas.

Particular attention is paid to the potential of the International Scientific Center “Observatory” on Mount Pip Ivan, located within the Carpathian National Nature Park and developed in cooperation with the University of Warsaw.

The Center is gradually taking shape as an international research platform in the field of astronomy, highland climatology, biodiversity, flora and fauna of the Carpathians, as well as a space for the development of astronomical and scientific tourism.

During the discussions, the initiative of the Dean of the Faculty of Tourism, Volodymyr Velikochy, to implement a gastronomic expedition through the ethno-regions of the Carpathian region, in particular Pokuttya, was supported.

The project involves research and popularization of the traditional gastronomic culture of the region and is aimed at developing local gastronomy as an important component of a sustainable cultural and tourist space of the Carpathians.

The combination of scientific research, environmental protection activities and sustainable tourism development is becoming a key area of ​​cooperation within the Carpathian Convention, and Carpathian University will continue to play an active role in shaping a modern model of sustainable development of the Carpathian region.
