Start of the Youth Legal Literacy Project – a social action project of students of the Ivano-Frankivsk Vocational College

In response to current challenges in adolescent safety and legal awareness, students of Ivano-Frankivsk Vocational College won the competition for social initiatives with their Youth Legal Literacy Project. The initiative was developed and submitted after undergoing intensive training within the framework of the Youth Connect for Ukraine program.

The Youth Connect for Ukraine project is implemented by the British Council in Ukraine in partnership with the Charity Organisation “Charity Fund “Welfare of Ukraine” and is aimed at developing youth leadership, civic engagement and the ability of young people to respond to social challenges in their communities.

Following the results of the competitive selection, the Youth Legal Literacy Project received funding of 20,000 hryvnias for the implementation of the planned activities. The project is being implemented by students of the Ivano-Frankivsk Vocational College under the leadership of Iryna Malinovska, a college lecturer and director of the public organisation “Agency for the Development of Private Initiatives”, which provides conceptual, methodological and organisational support for the initiative.

The project involves preparing students to work with a teenage audience, developing training content on bullying, minors’ rights, and safe behaviour, and establishing partnerships with community educational institutions.

Students involved in the project are: Fedor Angelina, Rozhanska Veronica, Danylyuk Victoria (2nd year, Law major) and Shmigel Ilya (1st year, Secretarial and Office Administration major). They will conduct interactive legal education activities for students in grades 7–9, while developing their own competencies in coaching, communication, critical thinking, and teamwork.

The final stage of the Youth Legal Literacy Project will be a roundtable with deputy school principals for educational work, aimed at coordinating approaches to bullying prevention and implementing sustainable legal education practices in the community.
