For the first time, the solemn ceremony of lighting the Bethlehem Fire of Peace took place at the Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University before the start of the conference of the work team and the meeting of the Academic Council.
Every year, scouts throughout Ukraine observe an important tradition – to pass on the Bethlehem Flame of Peace as a symbol of unity, hope, and goodness. This year, scouts solemnly presented the Flame of Peace to the rector of the university, Valentyna Yakubiv. Accepting the Bethlehem Flame, the rector thanked the organizers and wished peace to Ukraine, its citizens, and all families.
The Bethlehem Fire of Peace is an international scouting event dedicated to the celebration of Christmas, the purpose of which is to spread the symbolic fire lit in Bethlehem. The tradition was started in 1988 as a charitable initiative: to bring light from the birthplace of Jesus Christ to those who celebrate Christmas away from home. The first to support this initiative were the scouts of Vienna, and later – scouts from other countries. The Bethlehem Fire first came to Ukraine thanks to the scouts in 1992.
This year’s event at Carpathian University has become an important part of Christmas traditions and a symbolic beginning of the festive mood for the entire academic community.
