Ensuring Academic Standards: A Professional Team Approach to Program Accreditation

On January 28, a training session for guarantors of educational programs and department heads was held at Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University, organised by the Accreditation Department within the Institute of Guarantors’ activities. The event was dedicated to the practical aspects of preparing for and supporting the accreditation of educational programs in the second semester of the 2025-2026 academic year and aimed at unifying approaches and strengthening the university’s institutional capacity.

Rector Valentyna Yakubiv addressed the participants with a welcoming speech, emphasising the strategic importance of educational quality, the responsible role of guarantors of academic programs, and the need for systematic interaction among all structural units in the accreditation process.

The Head of the Accreditation Department opened the working part of the training, Lyubomyra Iliychuk, who presented the guarantor’s roadmap, outlined the criteria for evaluating educational programs, and analysed in detail typical and significant shortcomings for each criterion to prevent them during accreditation procedures.

An essential element of the event was the active participation of the heads of key structural divisions of the University, who joined the discussion of practical issues of accreditation support:

– Iryna Solonets, Head of the Educational and Methodological Department, focused on educational and methodological support and regulatory support of educational programs, the realisation by students of the right to free choice of educational components.

– Olga Makaruk, Director of the Centre for Quality Assurance in Education, presented approaches to internal monitoring and quality assurance procedures.

– Iryna Hryhoruk, head of the research department, outlined the role of the scientific component in the implementation of educational programs, motivation and encouragement for project activities;

– Roman Dzumedzei, director of the scientific library, emphasised the importance of information and resource support and access to scientometric databases.

The issue of organising the university’s internal processes to support the accreditation of educational programs was comprehensively addressed by Natalia Belova, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, focusing on interdepartmental interaction, the distribution of responsibilities, and the accreditation department’s role as a coordinating centre.

During the training, checklists for guarantors and key stakeholders of educational programs, working procedures for internal quality assurance, and approaches to interaction with focus groups — scientific and pedagogical workers, students, graduates, and employers — were reviewed.

The event was an essential step towards building a shared culture of quality, strengthening accountability, and fostering effective teamwork in preparing for the accreditation of educational programs.
