Autumn Holidays at the Faculty of Foreign Languages: getting to know cultural traditions and developing team interaction

The Faculty of Foreign Languages of the Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University hosted the Autumn Holidays themed celebration, which united students around the cultural traditions of English-speaking countries, creative tasks, and interactive challenges.

This year, the organizers decided to expand the traditional Halloween theme by introducing the traditions of Thanksgiving. This format allowed participants to learn more about the cultural characteristics of the English-speaking world, its customs, history, and values. After all, learning a foreign language involves not only mastering grammar and vocabulary, but also understanding the cultural context in which it functions.

Students of groups A-11 and A-12 took an active part in the preparation and holding of the event. For the first-year students, this was an opportunity not only to demonstrate their knowledge of the English language and cultural traditions, but also to gain practical experience in organizing joint activities. Preparing the holiday required the division of responsibilities, coordination of ideas, joint decision-making, initiative and responsibility for the result.

The event program included interactive competitions, creative challenges, and thematic tasks that helped develop communication skills, creativity, and teamwork. Participants had the opportunity to show their abilities, artistry, and sense of humor, as well as apply their English language skills in a relaxed, communicative atmosphere.

An important area of activity of the faculty remains cooperation with secondary education institutions, in particular with Lyceum No. 12. Such partnership creates space for exchange of experience, establishment of educational interaction and popularization of foreign language learning among schoolchildren. For university students, participation in joint initiatives is an opportunity to develop organizational and communicative competencies and apply the acquired knowledge in practice.

Autumn Holidays demonstrated that learning a foreign language can be combined with creativity, learning about other cultures, and developing important teamwork skills. Such events diversify the educational process, promote student initiative, and strengthen partnerships between the university and school.

The Faculty of Foreign Languages expresses its gratitude to the students of groups A-11 and A-12, as well as to the curators — associate professors of the Department of English Philology Iryna Pavlyuk, Kateryna Fomin and Tetyana Marchuk — for their initiative, creativity and coordinated work. Special thanks to the partners from Lyceum No. 12 for their cooperation and openness to joint educational projects.
