The presentation of the first issue of the glossy magazine “Eye of the University” was held at Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University.
“Eye of the University” is the first issue of the Carpathian National University’s glossy. This is a publication about a new optics, in which education, science, and the impact of the academic community on society are demonstrated through the prism of living stories. The World University Press has long gone beyond the boundaries of purely academic bulletins.
Everyone was greeted by the university rector, Valentyna Yakubiv, who emphasised the importance of the publication’s appearance for the university’s development and the formation of its modern image.
The Chairman of the Academic Council of the KNUVS, Professor Igor Tsependa, noted the importance of the publication of the journal’s first issue as an event marking a separate stage in the university’s formation and development.
So that you know, a special place in this issue is occupied by the person of the year – Ihor Tsependa. The former rector, a person whose name is associated with an important and extremely powerful stage in the formation and development of Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University.
At the same time, the magazine also captures the moment of renewal — the university’s rebranding, the formation of a modern visual culture, the election of a new rector, and the beginning of the next stage of our common history. It is not for nothing that today’s university motto sounds like a vision for the future: “From the peaks of the Carpathians to the peaks of education.”
The magazine was born from the idea and vision of Doctor of Art History, Professor Nadiya Babiy. Nadiya Babiy shared the idea and process for creating the magazine. She noted that its publication was the result of joint work by the Department of Journalism, the Centre for Research on Universal Design Strategies, and the Department of Design and Art Theory.
Head of the Department of Journalism, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine, Iryna Kopystynska, spoke about the department’s participation in preparing materials for the almanack and in shaping its content.
The co-editors were associate professors of the Department of Journalism, Halyna Prystay and Ruslana Savchuk, who noted the peculiarities of the texts and approaches to covering materials in the magazine, in particular their emotionality, creativity, and variety of genre forms.
The magazine’s structure reflects the university’s mission and is divided into three large sections: “Mission: Education”, “Mission: Science”, and “Mission: Society and Regional Development”.
Within these sections, there is a kaleidoscope of faculties, creative education, a charitable university, scientific figures, future generations, and other subheadings that together form a holistic picture of the multifaceted nature of university life.
The almanack contains materials from the Department of Journalism of the Faculty of Philology. These mustn’t be just materials from the department, but primarily from the students. Sofia Tsinyk, a 3rd-year student, also spoke, emphasising the importance of such initiatives for professional development.
What is especially valuable is that each author tried to convey their own vision and atmosphere of university life, using different genre forms and approaches to presenting information.
The magazine not only reflects events at the university but also serves as a platform for showcasing creative work. At the same time, the texts and photographs are distinguished by creativity, emotion, and sincerity, making them interesting to a wide range of readers.
The cover photos of this year’s issue were taken by members of the scientific circle “Svitlopis” – head, associate professor Lesya Semchuk. Professional layout – Volodymyr Yatsyshyn. Gloss is not only about aesthetics or paper, but also about the tools of “soft power”, because it captures values that cannot be conveyed through dry reports.
It is a showcase of intellectual lifestyle, showing that the academic community is made up of people with ambition, bright ideas, and their own unique style. It is a space where professorship is presented in an unusual light, and the university environment is revealed through ideas, visions, and life beyond the classroom.
